Kiss-cut vs die-cut stickers
The two cuts look similar but sell differently. Here is what each one means, when to use it, and how it affects cost and presentation.
What “kiss-cut” means
A kiss-cut goes through the sticker’s face material but not the backing paper. The sticker stays on a larger backing, so it’s easy to peel and the backing can carry branding. Kiss-cut is the standard for multi-sticker sheets.
- ✓Cut through the face only, not the backing
- ✓Sticker sits on a larger sheet — easy to peel, hard to lose
- ✓Backing border is brandable and protects edges
What “die-cut” means
A die-cut goes all the way through both the face and the backing, so the backing is trimmed to the exact shape of the design. Die-cut singles look premium and are the classic laptop/water-bottle sticker.
- ✓Cut through face and backing — shaped to the design
- ✓Premium look for individual stickers
- ✓No surrounding border — the whole thing is the sticker
Which should you sell?
Most shops use both: kiss-cut sheets for sets (planner kits, themed packs) and die-cut singles for hero designs sold one at a time. Sheets maximize value-per-order; singles maximize perceived premium per sticker.
- ✓Sheets / sets → kiss-cut (more stickers per order)
- ✓Hero singles → die-cut (premium, higher price each)
- ✓A print-ready sheet gives you both: full-sheet + per-sticker cuts
